At Foundations, children have the autonomy to guide their own play, with teachers serving as facilitators - not directors - of learning. Literacy, mathematics, and the sciences are woven throughout their daily experiences. Children learn the power of their words and feelings, find strength in cooperation, and discover the value of self assurance as they develop trust in themselves and their environment.

And it all begins with CONNECTION and RESPECT.

Play

Play allows children to explore social relationships and expectations without the worry of grown up world consequences. Language, both verbal and non-verbal, is strengthened through play. Play also allows for unmitigated and unparalleled joy, lowering defenses and allowing for deeper learning to take place.

Connect

Identifying, naming, and discussing feelings when they arise are the foundations to fostering empathetic human beings. Building empathy in children helps foster trust, respect, and safety, which strengthens our community and helps set the stage for compassionate, empathetic citizens of the world.

Reflect

Reflection enhances meaning, encourages insight, and deepens learning. It is critical in helping students better understand themselves, their actions and their decisions, as well as those of others. Built into the curriculum are frequent moments of stopping to recall and review meaningful actions and events.
